Monorail lighting systems are one of the most versatile lighting options available - they are ideal for a wide variety of rooms and can be custom configured to suit your personal taste. Monorail lighting systems function like track lighting, but with flexibility of the rail and a large selection of attachable monorail chandeliers, heads and pendants to choose from.

Monorail prepackaged kits contain all of the hardware needed for basic installations, including power transformers that 'step down' line voltage (120 volts) to low voltage (12 volts). The wattage of the power transformer determines how many lights can be used on the monorail. For instance, a 150 Watt transformer can support up to three 50 watt lights (3 lights x 50 watts = 150). A 300 Watt transformer can support up to six 50 watt lights (6 lights x 50 watts = 300). Play has begun at the 2010 World Cup - the first ever World Cup to be held on the continent of Africa.
About 90,000 fans mostly dressed in South Africa's team colors of yellow and green, packed into the newly refurbished Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg on Friday.

They are watching South Africa play Mexico in the first game in the 32-nation, month-long tournament.

The opening ceremony featured singers and dancers in colorful costumes and body paint. South Africa's President Jacob Zuma and his Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calderon, sat side-by-side overlooking the festivities, each wearing their home team's scarf.
Television cameras also showed South African Nobel laureate and retired Archbishop Desmond Tutu wearing a team jersey and dancing in the stands.

The excitement was tempered, though, by the absence of former president Nelson Mandela, who canceled a planned appearance after his great-granddaughter was killed in a car crash on her way home from Thursday's World Cup kickoff concert.

In remarks before the start of the game, President Zuma said the 91-year-old Mr. Mandela had wanted to attend but could not because of the unexpected death of his 13-year-old great-granddaughter, Zenani.

Mr. Zuma also lauded the tournament as the first ever hosted by an African nation, calling it "the African World Cup."

The World Cup is being played in 10 stadiums across South Africa -- including Soccer City and Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

In addition to an automatic qualification for the host team, five African countries qualified for this year's World Cup -- Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and Algeria.

Italy enters the World Cup as defending champion, but Spain, the reigning European champion, and five-time former world champion Brazil are considered the early favorites in South Africa.

The first World Cup football tournament was played in 1930 in Montevideo with host nation Uruguay defeating Argentina for the championship.

In addition to the almost 1 billion food-insecure people, many more in developing countries will face food insecurity if deserts spread, if the Asian monsoon system is substantively changed, or if the freshwater supply from melting mountain glaciers such as those in the Himalayas becomes increasingly erratic.

The UN’s authorized climate institution, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), calculates that unchecked climate change will cut global food production by up to 40% by 2100.

Worse still, the planet may be close to tipping points – with entire ecosystems flipping into a new state – beyond which the planet will be transformed in ways we will not be able to put right.

These tipping points will catapult the global climate into a new and more fragile state, and destabilize the polar ice sheets in Greenland and the Antarctic, causing a sea-level rise of many metres.
A warmer climate may also unleash billions of tonnes of planet-warming methane from melting permafrost, and CO₂ from forests increasingly exposed to droughts, insect damage and fires, all of which could cause runaway climate change.

And eventually the ocean circulation system could be switched off.

It's getting hot in here!

The world is hotter today, climate change greater, and global emissions of greenhouse gases 25% higher than in 1990.

Thanks to a decade of science and 2 more IPCC reports, we also know with greater certainty (and alarm) the dangers we face if we do not act.
Most nations agree on the need to keep warming below 2°C. And they agree, in theory at least, that the world needs to establish an emissions trajectory for the coming decades to ensure stabilized concentrations of greenhouse gases in the air at a level low enough to achieve that.

No more ad hoc deals: we need a Real Deal that must be based on a rigorous scientific assessment of what has to be done to prevent climatic disaster.

What we must do

Current climate science suggests that we should not emit more than about 1,400 billion tonnes of CO₂ equivalentbetween 2000 and 2050 if we are to give the world a chance of staying below 2ºC of global warming.

That will require reducing global emissions to at least 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.

Global emissions will need to peak around 2015 and then to start FALLING sharply.

Even so, we will almost certainly require negative emissions after 2050 to get atmospheric CO₂ concentrations down to acceptable levels. That is, we will need to suck CO₂ out of the air – by planting forests or by other technological means.

Targets for 2050 must involve all industrialized countries. But they will also need to involve all other major emitters.

Certainly, the highest-emitting countries that collectively produce 80% of the world’s emissions need to be involved as soon as possible. By then, however, we should expect the world to be embracing a future of zero carbon emissions using clean energy technologies out of choice rather than “burden sharing”.

We will have kicked the carbon habit in the same way that 20th century industrialized countries decided to banish killer coal smogs.

Action must be taken in industrialized countries (and the USA needs to rejoin a global climate framework) and should also involve newly industrialized countries like Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, and emerging economies such as China, Brazil, Indonesia, India, South Africa and Mexico.
